Architecture Spotting in Barcelona

La Pedrera

I finally found time to edit my Barcelona pictures...
Well, as you know, I don't really do sightseeing. In the traditional sense, that is: admiring famous buildings, memorising facts, guidebook in hand... All that just seems too much hard work, and all I really want to do is relax.

But that doesn't mean that I would be oblivious to my environment. Quite the contrary; I spend a lot of time noticing little details here and there. Of course, these are details not mentioned in guidebooks, just something that happens to catch my eye, for whatever reason. I think it's because I've never been very good at taking orders (or suggestions)...

Anyway, I just wanted to share with you some of the pictures I took, starting with a little tour of Passeig de Gracia, the luxury shopping street.

Well, Gaudi's Casa MilĂ  is always impressive (and last year I even visited it, you can read about it HERE).

But there are other impressive buildings along Passeig de Gracia. Which is great, because even if you can't afford the prices in these luxury shops (Dior, Loewe), you can always admire the buildings they are housed in:

But there are impressive and interesting buildings all over Barcelona, not just along the main 'tourist routes'. For example, this beauty was just a few blocks from our hotel:

But what I really like are all the architectural details from different eras, sometimes side by side, contrasting the old with the new.

So, what was it that caught my eye here, you ask?

It was the play of colours, such as the multi-coloured bricks in the picture below. And the fabulous Art Nouveau cast iron features. And the graffiti painted on the old door. This is the sort of thing I notice when I go  'sightseeing'...

And how cute is this Art Deco doll's house in the shop window??? And it comes with its own set of miniature design furniture...

  1. I am totally in love with miniature houses and designs! Especially if it is a modern design!

    1. Yes, I love modern designs, too. This doll's house was really impressive, and the miniature design furniture... so cool. I only saw it in the shop window (it was Sunday and the shop was closed, unfortunately...)
