Denim and Leopard Print

chambray dress

Sometimes everything just clicks

Take this belt, for example. Now, I only ever wear belts for one reason: to keep my trousers in place. I've yet to find a pair of trousers with the waist-hip ratio to comfortably accommodate my body. A belt is what keeps me from constantly pulling my trousers up...

But back to this belt... I bought it in Barcelona in June, with no idea what to wear it with. I thought maybe I could use it to create a waist in one of those sack-like sundresses the shops are full of (I was getting a bit desperate at that point, not finding any dresses I liked). Of course, I really hate wearing a belt (or anything tight and close to body) in hot weather, so that's probably one of those ideas that seems good in theory but doesn't really work in practice.

And then I saw this denim dress, on sale no less, and I knew immediately that it was meant for this belt. So yes, I bought the dress to match it to a belt I already had... Oh well, why not? Of course, it didn't hurt that I also had just the perfect pair of leopard print sunglasses to complete the outfit...

  3. Oh yes, you were so right to A) buy the belt and B) buy this dress to go with the belt. They are a perfect combination and suit you so damned well. Kudos (fashion word for applaus haha).

    1. Thanks, Marea, for your kind words. I was a bit worried as I didn't want to sound whiny, but then I thought I needed to be honest about how I felt.

  17. Tiina, can I just say how very much I am loving this look! The belt is practical and decorative in this case. It creates more definition in your waist and it is just so darn pretty! I'm like you, I always need a belt with pants or I am hiking them up all day long. I do need to invest in some better belts and start showing them off a bit more! But this is just so fabulous on you. I may need to copy it soon!

    1. Thanks! This is one of my favourite looks, too. Not least because of the well-defined waistline. I have an hourglass body, and I need a dress with a nipped in waist, otherwise I end up looking 2 sizes bigger.

    1. Yes, retro! That's what I was thinking when I first saw it. It reminded me of the 50's Grace Kelly, or something my mother used to wear in the 70's.
