Fantasy Shopping: Denim

denim

Think of this as window shopping...

Or  indulging my shopping fantasies without actually spending money. It's not that I'm against impulse shopping (that's the best way to shop, after all), but with a minimalist attitude to clothes and a (very) limited budget, I usually buy just a few carefully selected items that I wear, well, forever and with absolutely everything I already have in my wardrobe... So, this is a way of playing virtual dress up, without making any commitments.

Anyway, I was looking for some alternative ways to wear denim. And these are my top 3 choices:

1. A TRENCH COAT

As I'm a bit of a trench coat addict (I have 3 for spring / summer and one in leather, and one made of wool for winter) I couldn't possibly resist this one, could I? Yes, I may be a bit biased, but it doesn't change the fact that a trench goes with anything, it packs well, and it instantly makes the outfit look pulled together and sophisticated.

2. A PARKA

This would be a nice casual alternative to your usual denim jacket, perfect with cropped trousers or a short dress.

3. A DRESS

I like dresses: it's one-stop dressing, just add shoes and a bag. And a denim dress might be a good alternative to a shirtwaist dress or a safari dress (for those of us who do not look good in beige or olive)

What do you think, which one is your favourite?

  2. Oh, that denim dress is just gorgeous. I have a denim dress in a darker wash, but have been looking for one that is a little more fitted and with a darker wash.

  3. In the past 3 months I bought a very similar jean dress and trench while thrifting. Suddenly denim was everywhere. So far I really love the denim trench. Mine is extra long and goes with everything.

    1. That sounds interesting. I'm afraid the thrift shops in Helsinki are not very good, you mainly find last seasons H&M. Or maybe I'm just not very good at finding hidden treasures.

    1. Thanks, Connie. I'm not a big fan of denim, although Indo wear jeans a lot in winter. And I just bought a denim pencil skirt...

    1. I think it makes sense, both financially and logistically, to add pieces that work with the existing wardrobe. Of course, every now and then you just need to have something new and even unexpected.

  12. I'm with you on the denim trench! I've recently bought a denim duster coat which I'm itching to showcase on the blog. I splurged because I knew that it would be so versatile and it's all about getting mileage from pieces these day.

    1. That sounds interesting, that duster coat. Well, we all have limited budgets (and closet space), so clothes have to work hard and multitask, to earn their place in our wardrobes. So, anything that looks like it might work for a few years is a good investment.
