Holiday Capsule Wardrobe 3: Casual Chic

casual chic

This was probably my favourite outfit

on my recent holiday in Madeira (around Christmas). You see, I'm a casual girl at heart, and I want my clothes to be versatile and low-maintenance. I can't stand anything fussy or delicate or something that restricts my movements. Yet, I hate sloppy dressing. Well, looking at me, you can probably see I'm not exactly a hoodie and a backpack kind of girl (I don't even own one, to be honest), so this is what I wear on casual days, or when sightseeing on a holiday.

Relaxed, easy-peasy separates are what I live in on a daily basis. It's almost as if I live my life wearing a sort of capsule wardrobe. And I like it: it makes my life easier if  I can just mix and match everything in my wardrobe. Who am I kidding? I'm one of those people who could just wear the same 20 or so pieces over and over again. A seasonal capsule wardrobe, that's the idea.

40+ casual wear

I call this casual chic

It's not the same as smart casual. For example, even though I wore the jacket to afternoon tea at Reid's Palace, the rest of teh outfit was a no-no as the smart casual dress code specifically said no jeans and no t-shirts. Yet, this outfit is a lot smarter and put-together than what we usually call 'casual'. I think it's the jacket: even though it's a biker style, it still looks smart enough to make the outfit seem a bit more put-together.

stripy jacket

I'm wearing:
jacket: Gerry Weber / jeans: Next / t-shirt: H&M / shoes: Clarks / belt: Tosca Blu /
sunglasses: Dolce & Gabbana / bag: Chanel

What do you wear on casual days?

    1. Thanks, Monica. I have a weakness for print t-shirts, or sequinned t-shirts, I seem to collect them. I liked this one because it wasn't white, which makes a nice change.

  3. I love the blue white and red. Especially the sequins with the striped blazer. Very sweet.

Casual is definately jeans and a t-shirt, but only if I'm just out walking the dog. Otherwise why miss an opportunity to wear something great?

    1. I've always been a bit of a jeans and a t-shirt girl, but I stopped wearing jeans at some point. I wanted to up my game a bit, make a conscious effort to dress a bit better. But we all have our lazy days...

    1. Thanks, Ally! Vertical stripes is a nice change, thinking how many stripy t-shirts I have. It seems that I can't resist navy and white stripes.

    1. Thanks, Carrie. H&M is not one of my favourite shops, I try to avoid fast fashion. The only thing I every buy there is t-shirts, like this one.

  6. What a great combo of biker jacket in stripes and sequinned tee! A stylish twist on a leather jacket and graphic tee. I must hunt down some interesting tees this year!

    1. Thanks! I've tried to cut down on tees, I used to have a huge collection. I still have huge collection. But, it's just such a versatile piece, isn't it?

  7. Love your sequin tee! :)

I'm trying to be more ruthless with my wardrobe clean-outs and more thoughtful when I buy things, I'd love a wardrobe where I could mix and match everything together, I have more pieces than I like that are tricky to wear unless I pair them with something in particular, which is a shame as I then don't wear them often!

    1. I know what you mean. These days I'm quite strict about only buying something I can wear in different ways. It's the constant travel between two homes that has forced me to streamline my wardrobe as it really does make life easier if I can mix and match everything.

  12. I am the same way about dressing casually. And I wear the same pieces over and over again, too, because I like them so much, so I know just what you mean.

Your outfit looks great! To me, the jacket dresses it up a bit, so I would have thought it would be fine for tea.

I saw your post in the Visible Monday linkup. Here's my Visible Monday post... http://www.midlifemakeover.me/2016/01/gamine-autumn-interview-with-david-zyla.html

    Have a great week!

    1. Yes, I get very attached to my favourite clothes, too. And you don't really need a huge wardrobe in real life, either. I couldn't wear this outfit to tea because the dress code said 'no jeans, no t-shirts'. It was a very posh hotel.
