Impulse Shopping: The Cocoon Cape, take 2

cocoon cape over 40

I did t again...

Bought something I already have, that is. Yes, I saw this silk cocoon cape, and I just had to have it...
Never mind that I already have a silk cocoon cape, this one's a different colour... well, almost. But it's a totally different print. And I love wearing a silk cocoon cape, so there...

Did I mention it's washable???

Washable silk... Now, that just makes sense. And it's a lovely green/blue shade that goes with... well, not sure yet, but I'm sure I will find lots of nice clothes to wear it with. Maybe something in dark red, or burgundy. Yes, I need to find a dress in burgundy... See, it's good for me: I need to experiment with new colours. Maybe not burgundy, though; it might be  bit dark for me, but something... dark red(ish)... Oh hell, I loved the cape, and I just had to have it. Isn't that good enough a reason to buy it?

What? You thought I only buy clothes to fill the gaps in my perfectly organised wardrobe, after a long and thorough process of analysing my needs?

Oh no, most of my clothes were impulse purchases (especially the clothes I like and wear the most). Yes, I have a constantly updated list of what I need, and I may even venture out to look for a specific item. Invariably, I get back home empty-handed... The problem is, I know exactly what I want, and usually it doesn't exist.

And sometimes I see something that I wasn't looking for but really, really like... And I think I should just get it then and there. It makes sense: I seldom regret buying something on impulse and usually end up wearing it all the time.

In fact, when it comes acting on impulse in general, I seldom have any regrets. Not that it happens a lot, quite the contrary. If anything, I tend to be way too analytical, looking at everything from every possible point of view. It's exhausting. But these rare (in my case, that is) snap decisions... I've never regretted any of them. Maybe I should trust my intuition more...

I'm wearing:
cocoon cape:Jigsaw / top: Esprit / trousers: Marks and Spencer (old) / shoes: Clarks (old) / sunglasses: Prada (old) / bag: Burberry (old) / necklace: Snö of Sweden / ear rings; Annoushka

Do you ever buy the same piece of clothing in several colours or prints, just because you love it?

  1. That's a wonderful "impulse" piece - that could be a favorite, right? It looks great over, well, everything. xo

    1. I'm sure it will become a favourite. It's a wonderful layering piece on a hot day, to protect my skin from the sun. Of course, sunny days are numbered now, as we approach autumn...

  2. An eminently sensible purchase in my view! You've had fabulous wear from your first one, so why not buy a second in an equally gorgeous print. I often buy the same item in different colours or prints, especially. If you know it looks good and works then, makes sense.

    1. I agree. I have a bad habit of buying the same item in different colours, and even multiples of the same colour... I usually justify this by tell myself that it's because I want to have the same item in both of my homes, in Finland and the U.K, but of course they always end up in one place...

  3. I nearly completely act on impulse. Let me tell you, that is not good either. But I do what you do: if I am looking for a bag and find the perfect blouse, well... then the blouse comes home with me.

    2. That actually makes, sense, getting whatever nice item you find. because if you don't get it then, it won't be there when you go back for it...

  4. Oh I like that cocoon cape and now I want one too! I love something covering my arms to keep the breeze off and yet sometimes a cardigan is too warm. It's a beautiful colour and pattern too. I see that putting on the cocoon cape turned you into a butterfly ready to fly away. You look lovely in all of those colours. xoxo

    1. Thanks, Shawna. I love this piece in summer, I like to cover my arms as I burn easily, and the cape is light and cool on the skin.

  5. There's a time for reason, there's a time for impulse. Fashion should be fun. Irrational, even. With a piece this pretty, why not?!

    1. So right. I just have to learn to be more impulsive. At least sometimes...

  6. I think you should definately go with your intuition , it seems to serve you well. Sometimes we repeat buy simply because we know ourselves and what works for us. This is the perfect example, great style and colour and will work with so much, well done.
