Another Wrap Dress... with Boots

wrap dress

Another day, another wrap dress...

I have this Baukjen dress in two colours: fuchsia and royal blue. I often buy my favourite clothes in many colours. OK, I confess: I often buy multiples of the exact same item, especially T-shirts, trousers, and sometimes even dresses... But I also have two wardrobes, in two countries. The brilliant idea behind this buying strategy is to have the same well-fitting, tried and tested basics in both of my homes. And it works, to some extent, except that my clothes never seem to stay in the wardrobe / country they were meant for...

40+ style dress
dress: Baukjen
And wrap dresses... I have accumulated quite a few. My excuse is that they travel well: you can just roll them up and toss them into a suitcase. No ironing required. Yes, I'm lazy... or busy, maybe both. Who cares, life's too short for ironing.

40+ accessories
magnifying glass pendant: Lilja & Lykke / bag: Michael Kors / boots: Jones Bootmaker
And boots...
I never wear boots as a fashion statement or an alternative to shoes. Given the choice, I would always choose simple pumps or flats even with a dress. However, that is not an option in cold winter weather. Enter boots: you can be warm and look stylish.
Finding good boots is not easy, though. Or maybe I just have unusually thick calves. On the other hand, I conducted a little survey among my friends, and either we all have unusually thick calves or most boots are made for stick insects. I'm inclined to think the latter is true.
What do you think?

PS: I kind of started another blog... I decided that Dilettante Artist needs her own space,  http://dilettanteartist.blogspot.fi/, (just click the new, colourful image on the sidebar) where I will be posting (very infrequent) random pictures: illustration, photomanipulation, that sort of thing. Come and pay me a visit and let me know what you think!

    1. Thanks, Suzanne. I always try to rationalize buying multiples, but maybe I'm just greedy...

    1. I am obsessed with trying to fit my entire wardrobe into a suitcase, so I don't actually have a lot of clothes. I'm a bit neurotic that way...

  6. Fuchsia. Such a beautiful flower, beautiful color and beautiful dress. Wow! Every time I click on your blog and find you in jewel tones, I make a mental note to add more color to my wardrobe.

    1. I think you can never have too many wrap dresses, and they're so practical.

  8. A wrap dress is a classic and not too much if I say a must have. I've been dreaming for DVF dress but the price just slapped me silly every time. I bought a pair online (not DVF of course) but the hem just hit me at the most unflattering bit of my legs, right under the knee caps and the color (black) didn't help either. The who combination made me look like a widow at her husband's funeral. I still have it in my closet, untouched. Lesson learnt - 1) Buy color, this one you have here is stunning! 2) Be weary when buying dresses online.. always

    1. I dream of a DVF dress, too... but they usually require dry cleaning, and that's a deal breaker for me. I would be wary of a black dress, too: very few people look amazing in black (I certainly don't), but most people look good in colour. and the length... yes, it has to be just right, otherwise it's a quick trip to frump town.

  9. I can see why you purchased this in another colour, the perfect dress. Boots are so often a problem for me too, so I often stick to ankle boots. Love your bright colours, enjoy your week.

  14. You look pretty spectacular in your rich purple (?) wrap ... always glad to see you drape your curves! And yes to boots! I like them as statement pieces, and they can really anchor a look, can't they? I've always admired a gamine look but it's a tough one to nail when one isn't light and boyish ... they help quite a lot in that direction, even for us curvy creatures. Yours suit you, and I know they're killer with some of your gorgeous coats and jackets!
